Born in Oxbow, Saskatchewan and raised in Cochrane, Alberta, a small ranching community, she attended the Alberta Hospital Edmonton graduating with a Diploma in Psychiatric Nursing in 1977. Next, she attended the Red Deer College obtaining a Diploma in Rehabilitation Counselling in 1978 and worked at the Foothills Hospital from 1980 to 1994. She went on to graduate from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Arts in 1983. Diann was accepted to the University of Windsor, Ontario, with a Scholarship, and graduated with a Juris Doctor degree in 1987. She articled with the firm of Meurin & Isbister and was called to the Bar in 1988 and formed her own firm in 1991, now known as Castle & Associates.
Diann started her own practice representing Legal Aid clients and dealing with cases often refused by other counsel. She now practices in the area of Family Law and has numerous reported decisions in all three levels of Court, including Provincial, Court of Queen's Bench and the Court of Appeal. She has over 80 decisions. Her favorite Court to appear in is the Court of Appeal, where she has over 40 Court of Appeal decisions.
Diann approaches law in the same way that she proposed to the University of Windsor when she was awarded a Scholarship to the University of Windsor; all matters should be mediated, negotiated and counselled before proceeding to litigation.
Her recreational activities include traveling and she has been to over 80 countries and territories including, but not limited to: United States, Mexico, Panama, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Peru (Galapagos Islands), Belize, Honduras, Paraguay, Urquay, Argentina, Chile, Falkland Islands, Brazil, Barbados, Bahamas, Puerto Rico, Caracus, Antiqua, St. Lucia, Saba, Bermuda, St. Barts, St. Maartens, Turks & Calcos, Grande Cayman, Jamaica, Aruba, St. Vatican City, Luxemburg, England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, France, Estonia, Poland, Finland, Russia, Iceland, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Switzerland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Spain, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, India, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Croatia, Israel, Syria, Lebanon, Morocco, Cuba, Gibraltar, Japan, Taiwan and Jordan. She also enjoys snorkeling while traveling but, most of all, meeting people from different countries with cultures and food that always enlightens and enriches her understanding of the world of which she benefits from in the practice of law.
